Optimist Team Red, White, and Blue

About Optimist Team Red, White, and Blue

Optimist Red, White and Blue (RWB) racing is for those students who are interested in the highest level of competition. This curriculum is geared towards improving racing tactics, boat handling, and knowledge of the rules. Sailors receive intensive, individual coaching, and also learn to work together as a team. On-land chalk talks, and on-the-water drills are a regular part of instruction.

While the main focus of RWB is racing, there is also a healthy component of fun involved with a strong emphasis on team building and sportsmanship. Regattas are outlined within the Parent Handbook and the required regattas are highlighted, with all other regattas being optional. A minimum of five sailors is required for SYS to sponsor the regatta with coach support. Some sailors choose to attend all events, others only choose to attend the required regattas.

All SYS participants and families are required to fulfill 8 volunteer hours, maintain current financial accounts, and adhere to SYS’s Code of Conduct and all Race Team policies and procedures as outlined in the Parent Handbook.
