HISTORY OF SYS
Sarasota Youth Sailing was founded by Kathy Waggener in the late 1970s with seven students in the first class.
In 1980 we were incorporated as a
501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation.
The Original Clearwater Prams about to head out on the water!
Singlehanded Laser Sailing out on Sarasota Bay.
In 1994 Sarasota Youth Sailing Formed It’s First Race Team.
Buzzelli Bequest Multihull Racing Program 2007.
The Sarasota Youth Sailing High School Sailing Teams Were Formed In The 1990’s
In 2012 Sarasota Youth Sailing Introduced The Keelboat Program.
2026- Present Day!
Today, we serve over 400 youth annually through a diverse range of programs. We have expanded our offerings to include recreational and homeschool sailing, and remain committed to making the sport of sailing accessible to even more children.
